HughesNet Special Discounts & Rebates

HughesNet satellite Internet is the favorite choice for over a million satisfied customers. Order Hughes Internet Service and get connected right away!

How Much Does HughesNet Cost?

HughesNet prices are about the same as DSL and Cable Internet. The only difference is that you will need to either purchase or lease the equipment in addition to the monthly cost. The good news is that SatelliteInternet.com offers additional mail in rebates and deals so that you can start service for as low as $0 down. In many cases our rebates also offer you cash back as well, making HughesNet more affordable than ever. These additional rebates are only available from SatelliteInternet.com.

How Fast is Hughes Internet?

Hughes Net Speed available is up to 5,000,000 bits per second or 5,000 kbps or 5.0 mbps. T1 speeds are only 1,500 kbps or 1.5 Mbps, making Hughes Satellite Internet a very fast connection. Prior to broadband for the home, dialup was the only real option and this speed maxed out at only 5,600 bps or 56kbps (commonly 56K) or 0.056 Mbps.

What is Two Way Satellite Internet and Do I Need a Phone Line?

HughesNet is 2-way satellite internet, where you can download and upload from the satellite dish. This allows you talk on the phone and surf the web at the same time. There are still 1-way satellite internet providers offering services. A simple 1-way satellite connection gives you broadband download speeds, but only dialup upload speeds through a phone line and modem. The $10/month price savings 1-way provider's offer, isn't a savings when you consider the cost of the second phone. In addition, with a 1-way provider you have to wait for the upload modem to dial in and establish a connection to start surfing. Lastly, these 1 way satellite companies are becoming outdated and may no longer be able to offer services in the future. SatelliteInternet.com highly recommends two-way satellite broadband from Hughes.

Is HughesNet Available In My Area?

Hughes Satellite Internet is available worldwide including the United Sates. SatelliteInternet.com is authorized to sell HughesNet Services in all major metropolitan areas and rural areas even if cable or DSL internet are not available. HughesNet is the #1 provider of High Speed Internet in the following local areas:

  • Texas - SatelliteInternet.com sells more HughesNet systems in Texas than any other state. Houston is the largest market, followed by Dallas.
  • Michigan - TDS Telecom serves much of Michigan including Detroit and Lansing.  However in most of these communities, the service is not available to all subscribers and HughesNet Satellite Internet is the best broadband solution.
  • Chicago Illinois - Consumers in the Windy City of Chicago looking for Faster connections at a reasonable price should shop at SatelliteInternet.com for deals, offers, and savings with Hughes Internet Service.

  • Dallas Texas - If you live in Dallas or one of suburbs like Southlake, Colleyville, Flower Mound, or Keller, it will most likely be wireless internet or Hughes that is available.
  • Houston Texas - Several folks from Azle and Tyler Texas have written SatelliteInternet.com thanking us for the great customer service and great deals.

  • Memphis Tennessee - If you cannot get Cable or DSL, Hughes Satellite Service will deliver the fastest connection at the lowest price for Memphis residents.
  • Shreveport Louisiana - Broadband Access in Caddo County as well as Amit is difficult to find at a reasonable price. Cable access is very limited and Satellite Access is your best bet.
  • Tampa Florida - Hillsborough residents are limited to HughesNet or WildBlue. We find that folks in these areas including Bonifay and Lakeland prefer HughesNet based on their years of reliable satellite service.
  • Brooklyn New York - We have some of the most loyal customers from Brooklyn.  Direcway Dishes are visible all over the roofs of Brooklyn including gas stations. Direcway is now HughesNet and over the years the speeds have increased while the prices have dropped. Kings County New York has almost every high speed provider available, but in many areas the only service available is through Hughes.
  • Virginia - Virginia is the second largest market for Satellite Internet.
  • California - California is the 3rd largest customer for Hughes, with a large geographic area, lots of rural small businesses and farms that rely on and need broadband rural internet connection.

HughesNet Deals Nationwide

You may have heard that satellite internet is expensive, maybe even prohibitively so, but what you've heard is wrong: satellite internet is affordable. It may cost a bit more than cable or DSL internet connections, but if you live in a rural area, you don't have access to those anyway.

For the rural internet user, satellite internet is your means of high speed internet connection; with plans and speeds starting at 15times faster than dial-up connections, and without the hassle and frustration of having to tie-up or dedicate a phone line just for internet connectivity, HughesNet satellite offers cheap, reliable, always on broadband internet.

Clear Internet vs. HughesNet

Are you looking for an internet service that does not require a wired connection over television or telephone lines?  There are a number of wireless internet connections available, so choosing the best option for you can be a difficult decision.

What is Clear Internet?

Clear high speed internet uses a 4G WiMax internet connection to provide internet service to users. Download speeds average between 3 and 6 Mbps. As a type of mobile internet service, Clear wireless internet allows you to connect to the internet as long as your device is located within the coverage area. Because coverage is currently available primarily in regions surrounding major U.S. metropolitan areas, it may not be a realistic option for rural internet service.

What is HughesNet Internet?

HughesNet high speed satellite internet is a provider of satellite internet service. Satellite internet works by sending a signal from the user’s modem to either a LEO or GEO satellite. The satellite processes the data and returns a signal to the modem.  This type of internet service tends to be a good option (and sometimes the only option) for users in remote locations. It requires a clear line of sight between the satellite and the satellite dish. HughesNet has internet plans for both home and businesses.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Rate plans for both providers are similar. HughesNet plans can start at around $40 per month whereas Clear rate plans can start at $35 to $45 per month depending on whether you want a home-only plan or a mobile plan. A major advantage of Clear broadband internet is that, if you choose a mobile plan, you are not restricted to connecting to the internet in a single location; you can access the internet while on the road.  However, the down side is that the network is still being developed and the coverage area may not benefit rural users.  By contrast, HughesNet only provides service to a single location (home or business); however, as long as you have a clear view of the satellite, the coverage area is almost unlimited. In terms of download speeds, HughesNet’s basic service starts at 1 Mbps and can go as fast as 5 Mbps at top speed with the fastest service. The top speeds for Clear reach about 10 Mbps, but the average speeds range from 3 – 6 Mbps. Both types of services may require you to purchase additional devices. Clear offers modems for home, single users on-the-go, and multiple users on-the-go (like a wireless hotspot). HughesNet may require you to lease or purchase a satellite dish and satellite modem.

How HughesNet Works

HughesNet delivers high speed Internet over satellite (not over your telephone line) so you can surf and talk at the same time. A phone line is not even required to have HughesNet! A certified HughesNet installer will connect your computer to a satellite modem and link it to a satellite dish that's typically mounted on the roof of your home. The satellite dish sends and receives information (i.e., email, Web pages, files) over the Internet and delivers it your computer as super fast speeds.

How HughesNet Works

Why is HughesNet the best choice?

HughesNet is brought to you by Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HNS), the leading provider of broadband satellite network solutions for consumers, businesses, and government. For over 30 years, HNS has delivered satellite products and services around the world, with more than 1,500,000 systems installed in more than 100 countries. HughesNet Installation

Many people are concerned about the installation process for their satellite internet account. However, with HughesNet satellite access from SatelliteInternet.com, we will send out a certified installer to take care of all of your installation concerns. Once you place your order for HughesNet satellite service, you will be contacted within five days to schedule your installation; we will work with you to find a mutually acceptable time and date.

Installation Equipment

The HughesNet-certified installer will bring with them all of the needed equipment to establish your satellite internet connection, including:

  • Satellite antenna / satellite dish
  • Satellite modem
  • Coaxial cable jack
  • Coaxial cable
  • Standard roof or wall mounting brackets for the antenna
  • Grounding equipment

Installation Process

For the installation process, first the installer mounts the satellite antenna – the satellite dish – to a roof, wall, or pole, as is required by the Federal Communications Commission, using standard HughesNet mounting brackets. Then the installer will connect a coaxial jack to the wall in the room where the HughesNet system will be placed. Following that, two exterior coaxial cables are run from the satellite dish to the jack. Next, the installer grounds the whole system. Finally, the installer aligns the satellite dish to receive the satellite signal and initiates the HughesNet account.

Not Included in Installation

Repair or removal of previously installed equipment or devices; use of non-standard mounting brackets; and setting-up of a home network or wireless network.  Depending on the local installer a pole mount, if needed to gain line of sight, may or may not be included.

HughesNet is the Best Satellite Internet!

High speed internet has become such a major part of how we live and do business that it is considered to be a necessary utility. It offers us a convenience never before experienced in history by bringing the world, information, communication, goods and services to our fingertips. People of all ages and from all cultural and economic backgrounds rely on it as a part of their normal routine. At home, we use the internet for:

  • communicating through an email service
  • instant messaging or chat functions
  • finding information quickly
  • online shopping
  • streaming music and videos

And if you own a small business, you already know the importance of having web presence to stay competitive with other companies. Your business internet applications usually require faster upload and download speeds than a traditional dial-up connection can provide, so satellite broadband gives you the solution you need to communicate with your customers and vendors. In business, internet is used for:

  • promotions and marketing
  • email communications
  • online sales
  • lead generation
  • providing information
  • video conferencing

Broadband technology allows us to have high speed transmission of information over the internet - information gets transferred in "bits" of data. The faster the bits move the more quickly you can email, stream music and videos and download files. These common tasks become unbearable to do with a dial-up connection since the bits of data move very slowly. Satellite internet is the only affordable high speed solution for individuals and businesses in rural areas that can't get DSL or Cable. There are not many activities on the internet anymore that do not require a high speed connection.

  • New opportunities are created with the internet that encourages economic growth and the development of new jobs.
  • Expansion, innovations and e-commerce create wealth in rural areas and connect them to the global market.
  • Advanced communications technology has helped to expand access to and quality of health care in the nation by removing geographical barriers.
  • Telemedicine helps to cut back the cost of healthcare.
  • Education is not restricted to the classroom any longer and by the time a student graduates they have global background that helps better prepare them for the work force.
  • Distance learning has been made so convenient and affordable that anyone can participate in continuing education and obtaining a college degree.
  • Small businesses in remote or rural areas can now compete with urban-based businesses.
  • There are no longer limitations in access to knowledge based on economic status.
  • Using high speed internet reduces our carbon footprint and helps with the nation's green economy.
  • Citizens are able to participate in civic life with greater ease.
  • Public safety measures and emergency services can be offered expediently and with higher quality.
  • People with disabilities are on a level playing field with everyone else.
  • Everyone in the community can access information provided by public libraries.
  • Individuals that are literate in using computers and internet technology are more employable than those without these skills.

Guide to Satellite Internet

You can get started with internet satellite service for as little as $59.99/month with the HughesNet Purchase plan. HughesNet is America's favorite choice for satellite internet service for many reasons:

  • Offers high speed broadband up to 50x faster than dial-up connection allowing downloading of large music or software files in seconds rather than minutes.
  • It does not require the use of a phone line and offers family oriented service palns with download speeds up to 5 Mbps.
  • Offers service plans for the home office that makes it entirely feasible to support business internet applications with the appropriate speeds.
  • Provides up to 10 email accounts with access to these accounts from any computer, and storage of 2 GB per account.
  • Uses Triple DES encryption to ensure your sensitive data is secure.
  • Can support multiple users on a single connection using Ethernet cables or a wireless router.

Managing Additional Equipment

You can purchase additional networking equipment such as a wireless router but since it is not part of the HughesNet system, we are not responsible for issues with it. You will need to contact the equipment manufacturer if you need help with managing your home network configuration and management.

Satellite internet service is not recommended for certain time-sensitive internet applications that cannot handle latency (subsecond delay) in service. The delay is so small that browsing the Web usually doesn't appear to be affected. It does however have a significant impact on Web functions that are highly time-sensitive. Some examples are day trading the stock market or currency market, online gaming ("twitch" and RPG games) or VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

It also is not a model configuration to run a VPN client over a satellite network. Typically most VPN clients will work moderately well, but speeds can be decreased by 50% to 75%. Think about the upload speeds you get with a dial-up internet connection and this will give you an idea of dial-up speeds for a VPN client.

At times you may experience halts or decreased speeds with the service during intense atmospheric conditions with stormy weather. The additional humidity in the air can cause interruptions in your service. This normally passes once the storm has passed but if your satellite dish gets really wet, you can try gently wiping it with a soft absorbent cloth. In the winter a buildup of snow and ice on your dish will interfere with the quality of your service. Use a soft brush or broom to carefully clear the snow away and your service should be restored. If trees near your dish grow large enough to cover the dish carefully prune the limbs to give the dish a clear view of the sky. You may need to move your dish if there are several tall trees in the area.
