Hughesnet unveiled a new plan to its suite of satellite internet solutions with the intention of providing a low-cost option. It’s designed for low internet usage, making it an ideal value for customers who need the internet for basic communication and share it with only a few other users. The Hughesnet Lite plan costs $39.99 per month for the first 12 months. It provides download speeds of up to 25Mbps and upload speeds of up to 3Mbps. It also cuts down Hughesnet’s 24-month commitment in half to 12 months.

While satellite internet is readily available to use nearly anywhere, it’s on average more expensive than traditional, terrestrial-based connections. The Hughesnet Lite plan brings its monthly cost more in line with wired internet services.

What can you do with Hughesnet Lite?

Hughesnet Lite is the satellite giant’s low-cost solution for minimal internet use. For those living in rural areas who don’t have much of a need for high-speed internet applications, it’s an economical way to stay connected to the wider world without the need to pay for a pricier satellite or wireless internet plan.

The speed and priority data of the Lite plan are sufficient for web browsing, email, social media, and some streaming. The 100GB per month of priority data can quickly be used up when using it for higher-demanding applications, such as HD streaming, playing online video games, and downloading large files. It’s a good idea to plan out internet usage and find ways to conserve priority data.

Hughesnet recommends a higher-tiered plan with more data and speed for multiple users and increased usage. The Select plan increases the speed to 50Mbps, while the Elite plan doubles it to 100Mbps and adds an additional 100GB per month for increased internet usage. Finally, Hughesnet offers a low-latency option that combines its satellite service with fixed-wireless technology. Satellite internet is generally widely available, but it suffers from high latency, which can make the internet seem laggy. The Fusion plan reduces latency, making it the ideal option for faster web browsing, high-quality streaming, and online gaming.
