Starlink is making it harder for potential customers in certain regions to ignore the satellite internet service, with the steepest discounts it’s offered to date. New customers can get a new dish for free, along with a monthly subscription starting at $39 for the first six months of service, positioning it as one of the cheapest satellite internet deals. It’s a limited-time offer that will last until March 31.

Here is everything you need to know about the current promotion and why Starlink is suddenly playing the discount game.

What's the deal?

This new discount applies to buyers in select regions, typically those where Starlink has excess bandwidth. Unfortunately, Starlink doesn’t disclose where the promotion applies and requires buyers to enter their address on its website to see if they qualify. These locations are also usually within regions where Starlink leases its dish, making it so new customers only pay for shipping.

The six-month service offers an $11 discount on its Residential plans for the first six months. It applies to:

  • Residential 100Mbps: $50 $39
  • Residential 200Mbps: $80 $69
  • Residential MAX: $120 $109

In many locations, Starlink is also offering home installation, in some cases for free. This is a newer add-on to Starlink purchases and is typically done through a local, third-party service. Furthermore, the Residential MAX plan still retains the free Starlink Mini rental, giving customers access to two dishes.

This discount applies only to brand new customers and to a single service account. Also, if you change your plan or suspend your account during the six-month period, you’ll lose the promotional rate.

Why the deep Starlink discount?

Starlink is continually tinkering with its pricing in different states and regions, and usually for two reasons. It continually balances its network bandwidth, attempting to encourage sales in areas with spare bandwidth, and discouraging sales in congested areas, usually with a steep fee of up to $1,500.

Another reason that’s become more apparent in the past year is the upcoming competition from rivals with similar technology and more affordable plans from other rural internet providers. Amazon Leo is a satellite internet provider from the retail giant that uses technology similar to Starlink, promising to deliver high-speed internet with just a small dish. It’s also continually stated that it's resolved to offer services by the end of 2026. Wireless 5G internet plans have also become more available, and offer discounted plans for customers of their mobile services.

Starlink has about 2 million customers in the U.S., and about 10 million worldwide, and it seems determined to retain its lead in remote, high-speed internet.
