How Fast is Satellite Internet?

Satellite Internet is generally faster than dial-up.

A dial-up connection is generally 56K, or 56 kilobits per second. It takes 1024 kilobits for one megabit, and 1024 megabits to make a gigabit.

Let’s put that in perspective: The average file size of a DVD is 4.7 gigabits, so downloading a movie, or even a one gigabit file, over a 56K dial-up connection will take days. Downloading the same file over a HughesNet satellite Internet connection, will take only minutes.
